Thin Skin Vs. Regular Full Lace Wigs?

I want to know how realistic the thin skin cap on lace wigs are. Which is more realistic: the thin skin or the regular lace? I'm interested in lace wigs. I have a head full of thick hair but wanna try lace wigs. How much thin skin is recommended (all over, front, perimeter, etc.)?
Also, how long do good quality lace wigs actually last?
